Scribbled Margin

Why Free?

The 4th–6th grade curriculum on this site is free. No asterisk, no catch.

I built Scribbled Margin because I spent twenty years watching what happens when a kid meets the right book at the right time — and because I know how many families and classrooms don't have access to the kind of curriculum that makes that happen. Good novel studies shouldn't cost money that a family doesn't have. They shouldn't be locked behind a subscription or gated by a school's budget.

My life is better because I put this out into the world for free. This work gives me life, and the fact that it lands in the hands of real kids and real families is the whole point.

How this stays free

The middle grades curriculum is free. As sponsorships and donations grow, the site grows with them — more units, more books, more months covered.

Older readers require and benefit from more complexity in what they read — deeper texts, more nuanced prompts, more careful scaffolding. That's not something I can provide for free, but I'd like to offer it. Down the road, paid content for Young Adult and Pre-AP readers is something I'm considering.

Know someone who could use this?

Share the site with a homeschool parent, a reading teacher, or a co-op leader. Buy this month's book for a neighbor or a local classroom. These are solid resources, and they're free for anyone who needs them.
